HOW MUCH LONGER?

Today is Monday and we’re beginning another week of uncertainty. It’s getting old and I’m not sure how close we are to the end of the pandemic. The list of what we can’t do is long and getting longer. People can’t work, attend church, eat out, meet with friends and family, attend school, you name it.

The Easter holiday has come and gone and it was a family first for my wife and I. Church was live-streamed from the web and we watched our grandkids play with their Easter baskets via video.

I think what most are feeling is a loss of control. I’m tired of the daily press briefings with leaders pandering for credit or trying to place blame. We’re in this mess together. I hope that it’s short term in nature, because I have zero faith in our political hacks.

There’s never been a crisis that hasn’t been made worse because of government intervention. The late reaction and overreaction by the federal government, Federal Reserve and every layer in between is setting us up for more economic deaths than medical deaths. I’m also concerned about what liberties we will permanently lose. Not if … but how many.

This isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve been around the block a few times and have the scars to prove it. We have more control than we think we do.

We have technology to stay in touch with family, work, attend school – you name it. The key point here is to be productive. Turn off Netflix and other the mindless drivel. Ozark and Joe Exotic will still be there months from now.

When was the last time you did something for someone else? Pick up the phone and call a neighbor. Check in with people to see how they are doing. Do they need anything? Do a favor for someone today.

We can support local business with take-out food orders, groceries, paying bills on time, etc.

We can look to improve ourselves, so that when the time comes to go back to work, we’re an improved version of who we were. Read a book. Write that book you always wanted to write.

Do you have a hobby? When was the last time you indulged yourself in it?

Spend some time reading and listening to great wisdom. Books like the Holy Bible. People like Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Dale Carnegie, Earl Nightengale, Zig Ziglar and Jim Rohn. These are my favorites. Who do you turn to in times of need?

All isn’t lost. The light at the end of the tunnel isn’t an oncoming train. It’s sunshine and the dawn of a new day.
