Coach’s Corner

“If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes.”   – John Wooden

Do you know why the advice from a grizzled street-smart pro is worth so much more than what you’d learn in a fancy MBA program?

Answer: You don’t really learn by reading about it. That’s why most college professors suck at being business people.

You learn best by getting out there in the trenches and trying. Yes, you will make mistakes – lots of them and you will have to deal with the consequences.

It’s when you step back, deconstruct what went wrong, what went right and where you need to strengthen is where the learning takes places. The big 4 areas are: skills, mindset, resources and network.

BTW, you do this until you get it right.

Then, you can tell someone else how to tackle a situation.

I don’t know of anyone who has succeeded in a straight line. There are a lot of ups and downs. In fact, if someone tells me that they have never had a setback, then it’s likely that they haven’t tried very hard.

The best ones who sit on top of their markets all got there bruised and bloodied…

I’ll have more to say about this in the coming weeks.
